Egypt won the match against Nigeria 3-1 (Moteab 34’, Hassan 54’, Nagui 87’; Obasi 12’).
Defending champions Egypt hope to do better in the African Cup of Nations after a failed World Cup bid as they take on Nigeria Tuesday at 16:00 GMT.
The Pharaohs have played excellent team football over the last few years and their dominance in the AFCON over the last four years is ample testimony of their talent. However they were unable to ensure qualification to theWorld Cup losing in an acrimonious play-off against Algeria.
Egypt is gunning for it’s third straight African title and Manager Hassan Shehata will be hoping to do just that and his confidence will be boosted by the fact that Egypt have lost just 14 games since his tenure began in 2004. With star players like Mohammed Zidan at his disposal, Shehata will be confident of Egypt’s chances in Angola.
Nigeria, on the other hand, qualified for the World Cup and hopes to add another ACAN title to their growing list of titles.
Coach Shuaibu Amodu will hope his team can surprise all concerned and will hope that star players like Osaze Odemwingie, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Obafemi Martins play a lead role in the revival of Nigerian football.
